Ich ahnte nicht, wie stark der Einfluss der Werke Ovids auf die Kunst und Literatur des Mittelalters, der Renaissance, der Neuzeit und der Moderne war. Nicht nur in der Literatur, sondern auch in der bildenden Kunst und in der Musik kommt der Einfluss Ovids zur Geltung.

Mir gefällt, wie mit wenigen Sätzen Senecas Philosophie, die bekanntermaßen eine angewandte Ethik ist, dem Leser zugänglich gemacht wird.

Die Tatsache, dass man Gelegenheit hat, in viele Originaltextübersetzungen hineinzulesen, macht für mich das Buch besonders reizvoll, denn mir waren nicht alle Texte der Autoren geläufig.
